PROCEEDINGS of the FOURTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON RICKETTSIAE and RICKETTSIAL DISEASES, to be held in the city of LOGROÑO (LA RIOJA) – SPAIN - , from the 18th to the 21st of june, 2005

The New York Academy of Science has agreed to publish the proceedings of the International Conference on Rickettsiae and Rickettsial Diseases as a volume of the Annals of the New York Academy of Science.

The Annals are widely read and cited by scientists all over the world. The series is ranked by ISI as being in the top 2% of sources cited in the scientific literature. Several Annals volumes have become the Book in the field of reference.

Below are guidelines excepted from the annals web site plus additional requirements set by the committee.

· Publication

· Manuscript length
Plenary papers: 10 – 15 pages (including abstract, figure legends, references, and tables)
Oral presentations: 5 – 10 pages; NO EXCEPTIONS
Extended abstracts (posters): 2 – 3 pages. NO EXCEPTIONS

Longer papers than allowed for oral presentations or posters will be published on the website of the Annals.

All material must be double-spaced, with a 1” margin on all sides (1½” if on A4 paper). For details, see Electronic Submission of Accepted Manuscripts. Please use New Times Roman font No 11 or 12

· References
References are cited numerically as they occur in the text. Abbreviations for journal titles are those used in the Biosis database: Only the first author’s name and initials are inverted in the reference list, and all authors’ names are cap/lower case [NOT all caps]. For details, see Reference Paradigms.

· Abstracts and Keywords
Abstracts should be not more than 250 words and are not used with poster papers. Please supply several keywords for your article.

· Tables
Tables must be placed on separate pages following the text, and should be designed to fit
on a standard book page (4.5” X 7” print area). Entitle each table, and make sure each column has a heading.

· Figures
These must be professional-quality drawings, charts or graphs, or glossy half-tone photographs. Computer-generated art must be output on a laser printer (600-dpi minimum); all elements must be proportionate and sized for reduction to fit a 4.5” X 7” page. Be sure that columns and bars can be distinguished from each other by using distinctive stippling, cross-hatchings (but not screen tints). Figures may be submitted in EPS or TIFF format, with a separate file for each. DO NOT EMBED GRAPHICS IN THE TEXT FILE; SAVE GRAPHICS AS SEPARATE EPS OR TIFF FILES.
Do not use color in graphs or charts; convert color to B/W. The cost of color reproduction and presswork, approximately $3500, must be borne by the author. For details, please email Karim Hechemy.

· Copyright
Please sign and return a Copyright Transfer Agreement with your manuscript. If you are reprinting figures from another source, it is your responsibility to acquire a letter of permission from the copyright holder and forward the signed original permission letter to us.

· Authors’ addresses
The full address (including e-mail), phone and fax numbers of the corresponding author must appear on the title page (simple affiliations with postal codes are sufficient for other authors).

· Complimentary copies of the Annals


Only the first author will receive a complimentary copy. First Authors with more than one article will receive only one complimentary copy of the Annals.

· Deadlines

June 1 - Corresponding author please send your intent to publish in the Annals to karimhechemy@bellsouth.net. You must respond by indicating YES or NO.

June 18 - Corresponding authors, please submit copy of each manuscript onto 2 separate CDs using PC format (preferred) or Mac when registering at the meeting.
Please indicate on the discs the name of the corresponding author, the phone, fax, and email address.

July 30 - Last deadline to submit the Manuscripts

You will receive an email acknowledging receipt of the manuscript
Each manuscript will be reviewed by two reviewers for scientific content.

August 30- Corresponding author will be notified of the reviewers’ comments/suggestions.

September 30- Deadline for the corresponding author to return the manuscript with modifications. If the author does not agree with the changes requested by the reviewers an explanation email letter should be sent by September 15.
